Greg Malan was born and raised in the Salem, Illinois area. He attended Young Grade School, which is now Selmaville Grade School, and he was a Salem Community High School graduate in 1972.  Greg received his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois in 1976. After returning to Salem, Greg founded Malan Financial Group in early 1977 and mainly represented The Franklin Life Insurance Company.  Greg holds the FINRA Series 6, 22 and 63 Registrations through LPL Financial. As an Independent LPL Registered Representative, Greg began adding many additional financial and insurance companies to the business and now that numbers over 100.  In 2003 the business grew into 'the Family business' as Greg was joined in business by his son Doug.

Greg has been very successful in other areas of his life; one of which is athletics.  He played 3 sports through High School and into college.  Continuing to play after graduation, Greg also began coaching various sports.  Coaching led to several State Championships and State trophies over the next 22 years.  Everything cumulated to being inducted into the Salem High School Hall of Fame as an individual in 2007.  He had already been inducted to the Hall of Fame as a member of the 1971-72 Basketball Team and was the leading scorer on that team.
 

For the last 18 years, Greg has also been competing in the shot, discus and hammer at several state track meets in the Midwest and also qualifies for and competes at the National Track and Field Meet for Masters (age 50 and above).  He has earned "All-American" status many times.  In 2024 Greg competed in the Pan American Games for Masters and got a taste of international competition.  He came away with 2 Gold and one Bronze medals.
